Virginia Employment Through Entrepreneurship Consortium (VETEC)

What is VETEC?

The Virginia Employment Though Entrepreneurship Consortium or VETEC is a 52 month $8.3+ million impact study program funded by the U.S. Department of Labor that is designed to provide WIA-eligible adults and dislocated job seekers, particularly veterans, from the Northern Virginia, Richmond and Hampton Roads workforce areas with training and technical assistance to start their own businesses.

Participants in the VETEC program will receive training in areas such as the Understanding the Basics for Starting a Business; Accounting; Finance and Credit; and Sales and Marketing. Participants also receive one-on-one counseling services, mentoring and networking opportunities.

Applicants must meet Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Adult or Dislocated Worker eligibility criteria to apply.

All eligible candidates must be:

  • 18 years old or older.
  • Authorized to work legally in the U.S.
  • Able to meet military selective service registration requirements (males born on or after January 1, 1960).

And meet one of the following:

  • Terminated or laid off from your most recent job, through no fault of your own, and approved or eligible for unemployment insurance (UI).
  • Receiving or have received public assistance within the past six months or meet income eligibility guidelines based on family size and household earnings.
